Who is to be blamed for student’s death?

They claim the space between the school wall and the walls of the houses in the area is not sufficient. The area is a centre of chaos when the school closes daily in the afternoon.

‘No police official or traffic cop can be found on the road to control the traffic when the school closes,’ Rajnish Batra, who resides in the house located in front of the electric pole, on which Jaskiran anged his head, said.

Batra alleged the area is filled with the honking of cars and the shouts of people everyday between 1 pm to 3 pm, when the school closes for the day. But even the school authority does nothing to control the situation, he said.

When contacted, however, V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west) said, ‘We have registered a case against the errant bus driver and started an investigation in the case. We will look in to the problem prevailing in the area to avoid such kind of incidents in the future.’

Meanwhile, principal Reeta Rajen Kumar of Hansraj Model School, where Jaskiran was a student, tried to divert the blame away from the school claiming that the bus had been hired from an outside agency.

‘We are not involved in the working of the school bus. We will however lodge a police complaint against the bus owner,’ she said.

The school authorities also claimed that other students in the bus failed to notice the incident as Jaskiran was seated on the last seat and he fell unconscious when his head hit the pole.

While others indulge in lame game, the 16-year-old’s death has plunged his family in to a pal f gloom. Jaskiran was an only child. His father, Pintu Chawla, who owns a reputed chicken shop in Punjai Bagh, was unable to utter a word after the sudden loss of his son.
