When kids wanna learn

All play and no work will lo longer make you kid dull. Because kids in Delhi now have the chance to learn while they play. Stellar Children's Museum, being touted as India's first edu-recreational museum for children aged between 2-8 years.

The museum has seven galleries, each oh which is dedicated to a certain subject. The science gallery, for example, teaches the concepts of gravity and magnetism to young kids. In the Build It section, there are screws and mechanics for those with a mechanical bent of mind. There is also a section for F1 race were the gadget freaks could get a start up early on. ‘Our target audience is mostly children in the age group of 2-4 years but we have kept it from 0-10 years,’ said Akshay Sethi, one of the directors of the museum.

When asked if the market was ready for a new concept such as this, Sethi said: ‘Actually I think why this concept could work is because there is a need especially among nuclear families where both parents are working. Also in India there is no space for interactive play involving the parents and the children. I have positive response about it already,’ added Sethi.

The museum has been made in a way so that it reflects a child's view of how he sees the world. In Splash It — the water area — the flow of water can be seen. In the art section, the parents and kids can together paint on the glass. There is also a community centre where there is a market like set up where kids can actually get involved in a real life market.

‘Here we are trying to focus on the social skills of the children. There is a clinic, with X-ray jigsaw puzzles and also a school and a disc where the children can get together to have some quality time,’ Sethi pointed out.

He plans to expand and build a few more such museums. There are also plans to add more galleries — construction is on for a new gallery Adventure which should open by next month.

How safe is the place for children? Every gallery has attire suited to the needs of the gallery and there is staffs to keep a watch on the playing kids. The edges of the furniture are round to avoid sharp edges. There is also a wash basin in every gallery.
