West Bengal CM updates govt’s achievements on Facebook

As political exchanges between West Bengal’s chief minister Mamata Banerjee and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi reached a new crescendo, Banerjee decided to turn the spotlight on her government’s achievements as the ruling power in Bengal. On her Facebook page, Banerjee wrote about how her employment policy yielded rich dividends for the state.

‘Unfortunately, when our government came to power in May 2011, there were about one crore youth without jobs — it is yet another legacy we inherited from 34 years of Left Front misrule,’ she rued.

‘So we decided to set up one ITI in every block and one Polytechnic  College in every sub-division. Already 38 new ITIs have been set up so far and another 88 are under construction. Similarly, 24 new Polytechnics have been set up so far and another 39 are under construction,’ Banerjee added.

The state government also formed the Skill Development Mission in the state. ‘You will be happy to know that Bengal has been adjudged as the “best state” in All India Skill Competition, 2013, and awarded Certificate of Merit and Running Shield,’ Banerjee said, attaching the certificate in question.

‘To harness the immense potential of our youth power and transform it into a super workforce, our focus right from the beginning was not only to create job opportunities, but also to increase the employability of our youth,’ she explained.

India is a country of the youth. Nearly 74 per cent of the country’s population is below 40 years of age. In absolute numbers, the figure is perhaps unmatched anywhere in the world, she said.
