We’ll work to not repeat mistakes against Pune: Marcelinho

“We are looking to learn from our mistakes and with a positive mentality of a home game, we are aiming to put out a strong performance,” said Delhi Dynamos FC winger Marcelo Leite Pereira, fondly known as Marcelinho.

Delhi Dynamos FC are set to host FC Pune City at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 27 for the 24th match of the Indian Super League. Dynamos currently sit on the 6th spot in the league table with 6 points from 5 games. After winning their opener against defending champions Chennaiyin FC, Dynamos drew their next three games before losing to Atletico de Kolkata in the last clash.

In their game against Kolkata, Dynamos managed to create a host of chances but were unable to capitalise on any of them which cost them the game. “We were playing very good game but we missed 2-3 chances and post the penalty miss, we just disconnected. We are working hard on improving the finishing but it is football and it can happen,” Marcelinho said. “I can say we ourselves give away the game because we create a lot of opportunities and play a good passing game but disconnect at the end.”

On being asked if the team is specifically working on the finish, Marcelinho said, “Not really. We just play a natural game, create chances and try to close the deal but if that doesn’t happen, we need to keep trying.” The winger at Delhi Dynamos says he enjoys playing at the wing. He said that he can also play behind the striker.

Delhi Dynamos, throughout this season, have played with a single formation, which coach Zambrotta believes to be their identity but he hasn’t shied away from making tactical changes. On his philosophy of play, Marcelinho said, “We just look to work hard and the coach wants to build a tactical and positive mentality. He trains us to develop the ability to change the style of game into offensive or defensive according to the needs.” The Brazilian, who has never played ginga style, looks upto his nation’s hero Neymar Jr and believes “he is very good.”

With the next game just a day away, Delhi Dynamos will be having a session where they’ll see Pune’s previous games and will look to counter Antonio Habas’ passion with their will.
