‘Web-based abortion may prove dangerous’

The health experts in the city have warned about the increasing trend of ‘web abortion’, which may also prove.

The experts have revealed that abortion through internet-based consultation is increasing the Capital, which may also pose a threat to life.

A 23-year-old-young woman working with a corporate firm faced severe complication after she followed the abortion procedure prescribed on the internet. “When she was admitted to hospital, her hemoglobin count was down. Her womb had extremely foul smell due to incomplete abortion. Also, she developed severe infections too,” said Archana Dhawan Bajaj, gynecologist and obstetrician at Nurture IVF Centre .

According to recently-published data, around 18 to 67 lakh abortions are done in India every year of which more than half are not under medical supervision.

“I get several such cases everyday. I suggest them to take precaution and not rely completely on internet. Internet-based abortion can lead to grave complications such as bleeding, anaemia, incomplete abortion, infections, Septicaemia (infection spreading in the blood) and other such infections”, the doctor revealed.
