Weather, violence disrupt train and bus services in state

Train services in the Sealdah main section was suspended late Friday evening after the overhead wires snapped at Ultadanga, Dum Dum and Belghoria when thunder storm lashed the city. Many trains were stranded in various stations as a result of this incident.

The thunder storm coupled with rain hit the city a little after 8.30 pm. Due to the strong wind, the overhead wires snapped. The railway engineers rushed to the spot after the incident. The repair work was started on a war footing. The rail services in the Sealdah main section remained affected till late Friday night. Various parts of the city and adjoining areas received rain on Friday bringing some respite from the excessive heat and discomfort weather.

Bus services between New Jalpaiguri and Doors were suspended after some passengers damaged a bus. Police said that a quarrel broke out between a bus conductor and the passengers after the bus started off. Some youths who were going to Odlabari engaged in a quarrel with the bus conductor on various issues. When the bus reached Odlabri the youth ransacked the bus. 

Following this incident, the bus owner’s organisation decided to suspend the bus services in this route to protest against the incident. They demanded that accused must be booked soon. They threatened to go on an indefinite strike if the accused are arrested. They also demanded that that police should immediately identify the culprits and take a strong action against them.
