We don’t show our back in 49 days: Sonia

This is the first major Congress public meeting after the party was routed in the assembly polls in December 2013.

Launching a frontal attack on BJP and AAP, which ruled Delhi for 49 days, Gandhi said, ‘It’s the Congress which knows the fine art of governance and we do not abdicate as some others did in just 49 days.’ This is first rally of Congress president in the city without the presence former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who has since been shifted to Raj Bhawan in Thiruvananthapuram.
Accompanied by AICC general secretaries Ajay Maken and Shakil Ahmed and Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely on the stage, Gandhi also criticised BJP for practising divisive politics. ‘BJP represents an ideology which believes in dividing people on communal lines,’ said the Congress president. In an indirect attack on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Gandhi said nationalism and patriotism were in the veins of Congressmen, adding that the country favoured composite culture. Giving a counter to the BJP charges, Gandhi claimed that UPA government led by Manmohan Singh was responsible for introduction and passage of pro-people acts such as Right to Education, Right to Food, Street Vendors Act and giving one rank-one pension to the military personnel.
