WBSEB office ransacked by villagers in North 24 Parganas

An official of the WBSEB received injuries and was taken to a hospital where he received treatment. A large contingent of police from Duttapukur went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

About 500 local people gathered outside the WBSEB office, alleging that electricity supply had been cut off in vast areas surrounding Kadambagachi, Golabari, Beliaghata and Aminpur from 7 pm every day for the past one week, causing great inconvenience to the residents. The supply was restored after
three to four hours.

They demanded an explanation from the WBSEB officials and on failing to get a proper answer ransacked
the office. The glass top tables were overturned and window panes smashed. Even the employees who were present in the office were beaten up.

The attackers tore off documents  as well and left the office. They later went to Taki Road and put up a road block affecting traffic movement. The road is one of the major thoroughfares connecting North 24 Parganas with Bangladesh. A large contingent of police went to the spot.

The protestors lifted the blockade and put up road another road block just one kilometre away.
The residents alleged that before any thunderstorm, WBSEB officials sometimes put off power to avoid accidents. However, in the past one week, no thunderstorms had taken place, yet the power supply was regularly cut off.

Despite repeated complaints, the residents said, the officials did not look into the matter.WBSEB officials said they had assured the attackers that they would look into the matter and take necessary steps. But the protestors refused to listen and started beating them up.
