WBERC to revisit regulations

West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC) will revisit its regulations to adopt new changes and improve them to become more consumer friendly.

"We are revisiting our regulations and we will bring out the draft of the changes in a month," WBERC
chairman RN Sen said. He added that revisiting the commission's regulations was required due to the changes in the power sector in the last five years since amendments were introduced.

Among the changes proposed in the new regulations include tariff policy, renewable, open access and balance and settlement, he said. Renewable is gaining momentum in government policy and WBERC is framing a policy to govern those. It is trying to reduce transmission and distribution losses.

It signed an MoU with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to conduct a feasibility study to reduce transmission and distribution loss among power distribution companies in the state, Sen said.
