WB govt has taken swift actions in crimes against women , says Guv

West Bengal Governor KN Tripathi on Thursday lauded the state government for taking swift action in cases of crime against women and said the law and order situation in it has remained peaceful and under control.

“The law and order situation in the state has remained peaceful and under control. The response of my government against the social evil of any offence against women wherever it has occurred was swift and immediate,” he said addressing the opening day of budget session in the assembly.

“Strict instructions have been given for quick and professional investigation of all such offences and trials have taken place in fast track courts wherever feasible,” Tripathi said.

Convictions have been made within few months of filing chargesheet in several recorded cases all over the state, he said.

Tripathi also noted that 57 new police stations inclusive of 20 women police stations and 14 coastal police stations have been set up in the state to reach out to the people in better management of law and order and for reduction in the incidences of crimes and offences.

The government, he said, has requested heightened vigilance by border guarding forces mainly BSF and SSB at the Bangladesh and Nepal borders respectively so that human trafficking and other border crimes do not occur.
