Water ATM to be set up in SSKM

A water ATM machine which will come up at SSKM Hospital will immensely benefit huge number of patients and their relatives visiting the hospital.

If everything goes as per plan, the SSKM Hospital will get a water ATM before this Puja. The work for constructing the new machine has been initiated. The step was taken after the Rogi Kalyan Samiti had urged the state Public Health Engineering (PHE) department to address the crisis of drinking water in the hospital. As there was a problem of drinking water inside the campus of various hospitals, the state Public Health Engineering department had taken up an elaborate scheme to install water ATM machines at various hospitals in the state.

It may also be mentioned here that water ATM machine is also coming at the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in the city and other hospitals as well. There has been a crisis of drinking water in the hospital during the summer season. As hundreds of the patients and their relatives visit the city hospitals on a regular basis, there is a shortage of drinking water in the hospital. Sensing that the crisis may be further intensified in the summer, the hospital authorities had urged the PHE department to set up a water ATM at the hospital so that patients do not face shortage of water. After going through the pleas of the hospital authorities, the PHE department agreed to set up a water ATM machine.

Once the water ATM machines are installed in the hospitals, the patients and their relatives will be able to get one litre water at a cost of Rs 2. The patients and their relatives will get pure drinking water at minimum price. In case the patients do not carry bottles they have to pay some more prices for drinking water. Water problem has been a long issue at the SSKM Hospital. The KMC supplies drinking water to the hospital.
