Wanted teen held in Jahangirpuri

A19-year-old youth, wanted in several cases of robbery, attempt to murder and molestation, to name a few, was arrested in North-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area.

The police said the accused was identified as Wasim.

According the police, a woman had lodged a missing complaint regarding her minor daughter on October 9.

In the complaint, she alleged that she suspected Wasim’s role in it. A team was formed and Wasim was arrested from a railway station in Jahangirpuri, while trying to flee with the girl, police said, adding that the girl was rescued.

The police said Wasim managed to flee while the Jahangirpuri police was taking him to be produced before a court on Dussehra.

A case was registered at the Prashant Vihar police station. After a few days, the woman lodged another complaint, alleging that Wasim, armed with a knife, had visited her jhuggi (hutment) and threatened the family to withdraw the case.

The police launched a manhunt to nab him. “ It took around 72 hours to zero in the accused. On October 14, we learnt that Wasim was seen  roaming near the Shah Alam Bandh Road area of Jahangirpuri. A trap was laid and Wasim was apprehended,” said a senior police official, investigating the case. The police said Wasim had confessed his involvement in a number of crimes. He added that Jainel, Ahshaa, Kalu and Vinod helped him carry out criminal activities, police said.
