They call themselves October. To sort out the mystery behind the name, when we asked them, we were told that they had performed a few times under that name and thus it stuck on.
October and Friends, a five member band from Delhi, is all set to perform the first gig of the year in Hard Rock Cafe today. Comprising of Shantanu ‘Shanty’ Sudarshan on drums, Jeffrey Laloo on bass and on backing vocals, Rohan Panjiar and Shashvat Pandit on guitars and Amitabh Mukherjee on lead vocals, the five member band came together roughly three years back.
October however was formed in 2006, but since then band members have come and gone, only Rohan Panjiar and Shantanu Sudarshan stuck on. With the current line up, October has been performing on and off at college fests, various gigs and rock shows.
The high point of the band together is perhaps the performance at Great India Rock in 2010 when they also released their first album Defeat the Question, says guitarist Rohan Panjiar. Out of the eight tracks the album has, October still performs only a handful because their sound is on change’s way. The band is working on creating a fresh signature for themselves this year.
The past few performances have been Guns n’ Roses’ tributes in collaboration with Hard Rock Cafe and thus with this performance October is breathing easy. ‘We are relieved to be playing our own compostions for a change,’ says Rohan. While the band is all excited to be playing for known faces in the audience, they are hoping to impress new audience and pick up more shows down the year.
This year is heavy planned for October since they are not only planning to make a comeback of sorts to the music scene since they have been missing in action for a while, a four track EP is scheduled for a March release added Rohan. The last year has seen the band members getting busy with non-musical responsibilities, so 2013 is going to be their wake up call and a comeback with their own style of music and not just covers.
October and Friends are hoping to perform their alternative and progressive sounds in their original compositions that have been missing from the scene for a while. This show is big for the band and they are all geared up to make the best of it. So head over and cheer them on, October could add the right tunes to this chilly weather.
