Volleyball player murder: Jilted lover surrenders

Sourav Singha alias Raja who had stabbed a 14-year-old volleyball player to death after being jilted in love on Saturday surrendered himself at Jagaddal police station.

Sourav has confessed his crime to the police and said that he committed the crime after the girl with whom he had a relation refused to continue it. The accused’s grand father Purno Chandra Singha said that he accompanied Sourav to the police station after he came to his elder sister’s house at Jagaddal. Purno Chandra Singha said that Sourav had a relation with the girl for past two years. Both the family members knew about their relationship. Recently another youth came to her life and the duo was threatening Sourav over phone. Sourav has confessed that he had committed the crime. The Sub-divisional police officer from Barasat brought the accused to Barasat police station for interrogation. It was learnt that during the interrogation the accused has confessed his crime. The victim, Sanghita Aich (14) alias Tina a national volley ball player was found dead on a volley ball ground at Natunpara area in Barasat on Friday evening.  She was a class IX student from Barasat Girls’ High School and she used to practice volley ball at Natunpara volley ball ground. The accused had entered the ground on Friday evening with a chopper and stabbed her with the sharp weapon. The accused who is a resident of Shyamnagar area in North 24-Parganas managed to flee from the spot after the incident. On the other hand the Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Barasat municipality chairman Sunil Mukherjee went to the house of the victim to console girl’s parents. The school teachers also went to her house on Saturday.
