Villagers oppose Cola plant in U’khand

In response to the wake-up call by environmentalists and media, the villagers of Chhabra (near Vikas Nagar) have unanimously decided that they would not allow the Coca Cola plant to operate at any cost. They have given the state government an ultimatum to withdraw the decision of Coca Cola plant within 15 days. The villagers will protest in the form of protests/rallies against the plant and if such moves do not bear fruit, they will knock on the doors of the High Court for justice.

In an open meeting of village panchayat, the members of gram panchayat discussed the environmental degradation that the cold drink plant will create, along with the negative impact it will have on their daily lives. All the villagers, with women in large numbers, raised their voice against the state government’s decision to give the cold drink giant permission to operate in an eco-sensitive zone. Under the guidance of the village head, a five-member committee will be set-up that will go and monitor the hazardous effects of Coca Cola plant in Mediganj near Varanasi. Initially the decision was to allot land to Doon University.
