Vijender Gupta refused respite in defamation case against Dikshit

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to suspend the proceedings in a criminal defamation case filed by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit against BJP leader Vijender Gupta and sought response from Dikshit on Gupta's plea.
Justice J R Midha said he would pass an order in the case before 22 July, the date fixed by a trial court in its order to formally frame charges against Gupta based on a criminal defamation complaint filed by Dikshit.
The court also issued notice to the chief minister and the Delhi government and sought their response in the case by Aug 5.
The Bharatiya Janata Party leader moved the Delhi High Court against the trial court order and also sought proceedings in the case be suspended. The court rejected the plea.
On July 1, the trial court ordered the charges to be framed against Gupta and said an offence of defamation was prima facie made out against him.
Dikshit filed the criminal defamation case against Gupta alleging that the BJP leader used ‘uncivilised’ language against her in the run-up to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls last year.
