Victims in shock but sketches done

Delhi police have got some leads in the case wherein a girl in her early twenties, who had recently completed her paramedical studies from Dehradun, was gang-raped in front of her friend in a moving bus in south Delhi. The girl is now battling for her life in intensive care unit (ICU) at Safdarjung hospital.
Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police, said, ‘We have many leads in this tragic incident and we are working on them. The victim’s friend helped us make a sketch of two accused. He is in a state of shock and that is why we are not pressurising him any more as of now.’
‘On the basis of the statement recorded by the boy at Vasant Vihar police station, we have registered a case of robbery, gang rape, abduction and criminal conspiracy against the accused,’ Sharma added.
The victim is a resident of Madhu Vihar area in Dwarka, Sector-3, and lives along with her parents. Her friend who was accompanying her at the time of the incident, has completed his B.Tech from Meerut and is working with a software company in Noida at present. He hails from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, but was living in a rented accommodation at Ber Sarai, south Delhi.
Meanwhile, S N Makwana, spokesperson of Safdarjung hospital, said, ‘The girl is battling for her life and is on ventilator. She has been through several surgeries. She has injuries on her face, chest and upper abdomen. Blood transfusion has also been done.’
‘Her intestine was damaged. She cannot speak as of now, as she is in a state of shock,’ Makwana added.
On this tragic and shameful incident, Vijender Gupta, president of BJP and standing chaiperson of MCD said, ‘If Delhi police and government are not able to control the crime in the capital, than Army Act should be implemented.’
Meanwhile, Ram Singh, the driver of the bus, was arrested late on Monday evening. It has been alleged that Singh’s brother was driving the bus at the time of the incident.
Singh hails from Rajasthan and is currently residing at R K Puram in south Delhi, along with his brother. ‘The other accused are Singh’s friends. They are being interrogated,’ a police official said.
‘Two travel agents from Noida are also being questioned at Hauz Khas police station,’ the official added.
