Victim’s brother denies relationship with attacker

Sudhir Gupta, brother of Roshni, who was attacked by a classmate on the JNU campus on Wednesday, denied on Thursday that his sister was in a relationship with her attacker. Akash, who killed himself after attacking Roshni had claimed in a letter that the two had been in a relationship, before Roshni started ignoring him, prompting him to take the extreme step.
Roshni’s brother, Sudhir, is in Delhi and at the hospital where his sister is receiving treatment. ‘My sister was never in a relationship with the attacker, but he (Akash) had been following her for a long time,’ said Sudhir. He added that Akash had been obsessed about Roshini and her family had been aware about his feelings.
'Akash proposed to my sister several times. In fact he had stolen my father's mobile number from Roshini's phone contact list. One fine day, he called my father and expressed his feelings for Roshini, but he was told to concentrate on his studies,'Sudhir added.
