Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit: A capital lesson for India’s states

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has said that the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS), which began as an investment promotion meet in the year 2003, has now become a wider forum for networking not only for investments but meeting of minds of people connected with various sectors like infrastructure, urban planning, education, health, energy, agriculture, transportation, etc.  The 7th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit will be held between January 11 and 13, 2015, at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and address the
Summit.

Addressing an interaction meet with Heads of Missions of foreign and partner countries based in New Delhi, Patel said, “Gujarat has always been a proactive state for investment.  Progressive governance, business-friendly policies, strategic location and excellent infrastructure have made Gujarat a Global Business Hub and Global Gateway to India.  It is the dream of Prime Minister Modi to make Gujarat business-friendly,” she told a packed gathering of diplomats, Union Government officials and other guests.

Leading a high level delegation comprising Gujarat’s Finance Minister Saurabh Patel, Chief Secretary D J  Pandian and senior officers from various state departments, the Gujarat Chief Minister sought cooperation from foreign countries to help the State Government in the oil and gas sector.  “We are a state with major shale gas potential and India is drilling its first shale gas well in Gujarat.  All these have made Gujarat the energy hub of the nation,” she said.

To make the Global Investors Summit 2015 a phenomenal success, the state Government has been spearheading a massive campaign, with elaborate preparations in place for the mega-event. The State Government had deputed senior secretaries to visit various countries and meet prominent industrialists and business leaders to extend an invitation to participate in the Vibrant Gujarat event.

Patel further said that with a new, proactive government at the Centre, the country’s investment climate has changed drastically. “The Central Government has initiated a number of reforms in various fields. Today, clearances for investments have become faster and easier.   With the joint efforts of the Central and State Governments, I am sure, we will be able to realise the Prime Minister’s “Make in India” vision,” she hoped.

“In order to realise Modi’s vision of “Digital India”, Gujarat has floated an investor-friendly IT policy. We are also aiming at globally competitive electronic system design and manufacturing electronic goods in the State,” she informed the business delegates.

“Gujarat continues to steer efforts in the areas of economic development, social development and environment protection on a priority basis. Whether it is in the field of education, health, nutrition or uplift of the depressed classes, we have initiated innovative projects under Narendra Modi.  Housing for all and a toilet in every house is another initiative we have started.  I am personally involved and committed to the development and empowerment of women in Gujarat,” assured the first woman chief minister of Gujarat. She also appealed to the diplomats of different countries to get involved in making Gujarat scale newer heights. Addressing the ambassadors and diplomats, Gujarat Finance, Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Saurabh Patel noted that the Vibrant Gujarat Summit has today become a brand of its own. “It started as a small investors’ meet in 2003. Today we are proud to say that VGGS has become a business platform in 10 years.”

The state finance minister said, “Our positive attitude is the force for creating opportunities, finding new ways and looking ahead. Development in Gujarat has attained new heights due to the presence of political and financial stability in the state for over a decade.”  He observed that Gujarat is a revenue-surplus and a power-surplus state and the state Government is in the process of launching new policies and reforms to foster growth. In his welcome address, Gujarat Chief Secretary D J Pandian said that the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is a great opportunity for different countries to make global brands in India. “Today, Gujarat is attracting investment in most sectors. We are the frontrunners. Gujarat has become the global gateway of India as we have given leaders and business from Gujarat and will continue to do so,” he pointed out.
