‘Very difficult to get desired work without a godfather’

The actor, who made his debut with Priyanka Chopra- starrer Asambhav in 2004, has acted in Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap, Department and many South films where he played negative roles.

“Lot of my friends ask me why I always play negative roles. The problem is, if you don’t have a godfather here, it is very difficult to get the work you want to do,” said Shahwar. When I came here in 2000, I had no one to guide me, I took work which came my way and not necessarily the one which I really wanted. Although, I must say, I have absolutely enjoyed playing negative characters,” he said.

He will now be seen on Zee TV’s ‘Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma’. The show will mark his fictional TV debut.

“The audience has evolved. Limited series are the future of TV... Nobody wants to sit and watch a serial which goes on for years and years. The entire system is changing for good,” he said.

The 52-episode series captures the journey of Zeenat, a mother of two, deserted by her husband during the partition.

The actor will be essaying the character of Parvez, an upright lawyer from ‘60s. Shahwar says he agreed to do it as the character is positive, which is a change for him.

“It was big change for me to play a soft-spoken, nice guy on screen. It really got me excited as it is something I haven’t done in a long time. In fact, I styled my look on Kishore Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan saab to retain the feel of the era.”

The show also stars Urvashi Sharma, Aman Verma, Nawab Shah among others.
