Vaiko’s plea to CM to release 7 convicts in Rajiv Gandhi case

MDMK founder Vaiko on Sunday appealed to Chief Minister O Panneerselvam to release seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case on the occasion of the birth centenary of former Chief Minister, late MG Ramachandran, citing precedents in the past.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Vaiko also sought release of convicts who had completed ten years of jail term. He recalled past precedents where prisoners had been released on occasions including India’s independence, birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi in 1969 and efforts by Ramachandran himself as Chief Minister.

“In this background, I request that on the occasion of the birth centenary of MGR (as he is addressed), who was an epitome of humanity, the seven persons in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case who have spent 25 years in jail should be released,” he said.
