The Vice-Chancellor of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya in Nadia was allegedly heckled during an agitation by the joint forum, comprising of teachers, staff members and students of the university demanding the resignation of the registrar.

The joint forum had started the movement from last Tuesday and was conducting a sit-in demonstration in front of the V-C’s office. The V-C, Dharanidhar Patra alleged that when he
was coming out of his room on Thursday afternoon, the protestors pushed him.

He also claimed that he was also kicked.Following the incident, the V-C informed the matter to the state agriculture department stating how he was humiliated.

The protestors, however, denied the allegation saying that the Vice-Chancellor was making false statements and trying to malign the movement. They also called for a greater movement inside the university campus to protest against the allegations that have surfaced against them.

The normal proceedings of the university have been disrupted since Tuesday after the joint forum started the movement.

The works have been stopped not only in the university campus, but also the laboratory and the research room. After becoming the V-C, Patra appointed Suvendu Bikash Chakraborty as the registrar.

However, a section of teachers, students and the staff members opposed the move and demanded the immediate resignation of the registrar. They alleged that the new registrar was appointed flouting the norms of the university. They claimed that the seniority was not considered during the appointment of the registrar.

The protestors have also threatened to continue agitation till their demands are met.
