Uttarakhand Congress braces for April 19 Kisan Rally

The Uttarakhand state Congress on Wednesday stepped up its efforts to make the party’s April 19 Kisan Rally in the national Capital a huge success and said that the NDA government’s move to amend the Land Bill is anti-farmer.

In a meeting attended by state president Kishore Upadhaya, Chief Minister Harish Rawat said, “All classes of society are feeling neglected by the Central government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will also be attending the rally to be held at the Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi.

“Sushma Swaraj, the then leader of Opposition in the previous Lok Sabha had supported the land acquisition law introduced by the former Congress government that was passed to empower the poor and marginalised farmers. But now the BJP is at Centre and is trying to amend it, which is anti-farmer. This ordinance is beneficial for the selected people,” he said.

“The Congress opposes the government’s move to amend the Land Acquisition Act. This rally is going to be the turning point for Congress. In the close heels of 1978 rally, we have to make this rally successful,” Rawat said.
