Use protection to keep eyes safe, say specialists

The doctors have advised people to wear sunglasses to save the eyes from Ultra Violet Rays (UVR). They should be worn on cloudy days too. A wrap- around style is preferable.

People are being requested to wear hats as sunglasses do not offer cent per cent protection to the eyes. Sunglasses have gaps along the sides where UVR exposure occurs. The hat with a brim should be at least 3 inches wide.

Consistent use of sunglasses and hats significantly decreases URV exposure.Increased temperature, dust and pollution make one prone to eye allergies during summer. If there is persistent itching, redness and discharge consultation with the eye specialist is a must. The Conjunctivitis is common in
summer. It is caused by viruses and bacteria.
