Unprovoked attacks on TMC workers continue in city

Trinamool Congress workers were attacked at various places in different parts of the city a day after the election was over in Assembly constituencies in and around the city.

Around 150 CPI(M) workers had joined Trinamool Congress at Kasba a few weeks ahead of the election. They had worked for the party to campaign for the party’s nominee from the constituency Javed Khan and on the day of the election too they had worked for the party despite being threatened allegedly by CPI(M) workers.

This resulted to the attack late Sunday night in which some of their workers were injured. As per the allegation, a large number of CPI(M) workers had gheraoed the supporters and workers of Trinamool Congress in the area and started beating them up.

The situation was such that a large contingent of police was pressed to rescue the Trinamool Congress workers from being beaten to death.

Receiving prior information that the police were approaching the area, the CPI(M) workers managed to flee.

Reaching the spot, police found some Trinamool Congress workers lying there with severe injuries. They were admitted to hospital.

A local Trinamool Congress leader alleged that the police had rescued a Trinamool Congress supporter from being beaten up. But to show that they had managed to catch at least one person from the spot the police arrested the party’s supporter.

Some CPI(M) supporters were also injured when some Trinamool Congress workers retaliated to save themselves.

At Bagha Jatin houses of the polling agents of CPI(M) candidate Sujan Chakraborty were attacked. CPI(M) claimed that Trinamool Congress workers were behind the attack. Brushing aside all allegations Trinamool Congress claimed that it is an outcome of the unofficial alliance. The local Trinamool Congress leaders alleged that some Congress workers were behind the attack as the decision of their senior leaders to join hands of CPI(M) didn’t go well with them.

Abhishek Das, a polling agent of Trinamool Congress, was beaten up on Sunday night at Canning in South 24-Parganas. He was beaten up for working as an agent of the party. 

A Trinamool Congress worker was attacked at Chakraberia in West Baruipur allegedly by some CPI(M) workers. He has being stabbed. He was admitted to Baruipur Sub-divisional Hospital with severe injuries. Trinamool Congress leaders from the district alleged that he was being threatened not to work for the party ahead of the election. Even some CPI(M) workers went to his house and threatened his family members with dire consequences if they go to cast their votes. But they went to cast their votes braving all threats.

Trinamool Congress candidate from Behala East Mayor Sovan Chatterjee went to the house of the child, who fell victim of political violence, and met to the family members. It may be mentioned that three persons were arrested in this connections.
