‘Under jail rules, Afzal’s body can’t be given’

Union home minister Sushik Kumar Shinde while taking questions on various issues answered to a question on handing over the body of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged in Tihar Jail last month and buried there, to his family reiterated that it was not possible.

‘Under jail rules, Afzal Guru’s body cannot be given. I have offered that his family can come here and offer prayers at his grave,’ Shinde said.

In reply to another query on no action against JKLF chief Yasin Malik, who had shared stage with 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed during a protest in Pakistan, Shinde said that the controversial leader has been under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir.

The minister avoided answering a question on Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra’s shady land deals. ‘The home ministry has nothing to do with the allegations against Robert Vadra,’ he said.
