Under-construction banquet hall’s roof collapses; 1 dead, 11 injured

Roof of an under-construction banquet hall collapsed leaving one labourer dead while 11 others injured in the Bharat Nagar area of North-west Delhi on Monday morning. According to a senior investigating officer, the deceased has been identified as Gaur Mandal (48).

Police said that they have booked the banquet hall owner, Sanjeev Nagar, under Section 304 A of the IPC. Sources said police have called Nagar, a resident of Model Town, for questioning.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 7:30 am in the B-block area of Bharat Nagar where roof of an under-construction banquet hall collapsed. Labourers working on the spot were trapped in the debris. Locals living near the spot heard a loud thud sound and came out. After this, they informed the police.

The cops said that with the help of locals, NDRF and the local police, the trapped labourers were pulled out from the debris. While Gaur Mandal (48) was declared dead on the spot, the 11 injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Mandal was a native of West Bengal and lived with his family.

Sources said that out of the 11 injured, two are in a critical condition while others were discharged after treatment. Sources further said that all the labourers live in JJ Colony near Bharat Nagar.

According to police, they have registered a case under Section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the IPC at the Bharat Nagar police station against the banquet hall owner. Police said that they have called the banquet hall owner for questioning.
