UN blames all sides after Syria evacuation plan fails to take off
The UN has blamed all sides in Syria after it failed to secure an agreement to evacuate injured and sick civilians from Aleppo. UN aid agencies, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, Red Cross and other groups held days of negotiations to try to secure safe passage for the sick and wounded, but it all came to a halt when fighting resumed.
“It is regrettable that no patient could be moved,” said Stephen O’Brien, the UN’s humanitarian aid coordinator. “The evacuations were hit by various factors,” he said.
