Umrao Jaan director Muzaffar Ali wraps up Jaanisaar

Filmmaker Muzaffar Ali, who gave Indian cinema the cult classic Umrao Jaan three decades ago, has completed work on his new period drama <g data-gr-id="24">Jaanisaar</g>, starring Pakistani actor Imran Abbas Naqvi.

The film, which is set in <g data-gr-id="14">year</g> 1877, also marks the acting debut of stylist and costume designer Pernia Qureshi.

“<g data-gr-id="23">Jaanissar</g> is set in the period when we lost the First War of Independence in 1857, a time when the British created a subjugated nation,” Muzaffar said on the last day of the shoot.  “The story deals with a love story in which the boy is westernised and the girl is deeply rooted in the ethos of Indian culture,” he added.

The last day of the shoot witnessed filming of a special song sequence featuring the lead pair. The Sufi song has been composed by the director himself along with Shafqat Ali. The <g data-gr-id="20">artiste</g> is also known for his films like <g data-gr-id="19">Gaman</g> and Anjuman.
