Uma for speedy implementation of irrigation scheme

Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Monday pitched for speedy implementation of projects under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKYS) and directed the formation of a team of Centre and states to work out a mechanism to achieve the goal.

The government has short-listed 46 projects under the PMKYS, launched last year, with an aim to improve farm productivity. It has set a target of completing 23 of the projects by 2017 and the rest by 2020 with the help of states.

Urging experts present at Jal Manthan convention to focus on PMKSY and inter-linking of rivers, Bharti said, “Twenty three schemes have to be completed in the first phase by 2027, while remaining 23 will have to be completed by the year 2020.”

The minister said “Unless we identify the bottlenecks in the implementation of PMKSY, we won’t be able to complete it in time”.
