Uma Bharti won’t fight Sonia Gandhi

The BJP has started a ‘fresh look’ for strong contenders in Rae Bareli and in Amethi after party leaders Uma Bharti and Smriti Irani expressed their unwillingness to contest from the respective seats.

Earlier, there were speculations that the BJP may field party vice-president Smriti Irani against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi constituency and Uma Bharti may take on Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

While reacting over the media reports, Bharti tweeted, ‘I will do what the party says but I will not leave Jhansi. I have told our party president Rajnath ji and I can’t leave Jhansi. It is up to them to decide on Rae Bareli. Will accept whatever they decide.’ Recently, Yogaguru Baba Ramdev had come out with a statement that he wanted Bharti to take on Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli. Even Smriti, too, expressed her unwillingness to contest against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.

Smriti has stayed away from commenting anything over her decision before the media. She is a well known television actor and a daughter of a Bengali-Punjabi family, married to a Parsi, Zubin Irani. She is currently a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat She is also close to party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

She had conveyed the matter to the party leadership and it is likely that she will be given another seat to contest in this election.
