U’Khand Congress smells political gain in smooth run of ‘char dham yatra’

Although, CM has assured that all roads connecting to all Char Dham yatra will be fine before opening of temple portals, but it is a challenging situation considering the high altitudes area without proper machines and manpower. The frequent arrival of inclement weather is adding woes to Congress leaders.

The last year natural catastrophe of high magnitude in these regions and thereafter low pace of relief and rehabilitation work was the major reason of ouster of Vijay Bahuguna from CM seat under the instructions of Congress high command. Similarly, the extremely poor performance of BJP in 2009 Parliamentary elections witnessed the former CM Maj. Gen. (ret.) Khanduri quitting his seat for Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’.

In this situation, if everything goes well at four pilgrim centers, then it will be bonus point for Congress candidate contesting from Pauri seat. It is worthwhile to note that Vidhan Sabha seats of disaster-hit regions of Kedarnath, Badrinath and Rudraprayag comes under the Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency comprising 14 Vidhan Sabha seats.

Recently, Satpal Maharaj said, ‘I am ready to contest elections from Pauri constituency, if party high command selects my name from the panel.’ Thus, he ended all the speculations of sending his name via upper house quota from Uttarakhand Congress, and not contesting elections from Lok Sabhha seat.

Last time (2009), Satpal Maharaj(Congress) won by defeating  Lt Gen (ret) TPS Rawat of BJP by a margin of more than 15,000 votes, but this time the fight may be interesting if Congress fields Satpal Maharaj and BJP fields Maj. Gen. (ret.) from this crucial seat. The old warriors of this political battlefield are masters in their own way. From the past few months, both are regularly visiting their constituencies to win the sympathy of voters. Interestingly, both have huge supporters, thus making the interesting battle on 7 May.
