Uber cabbie held on molestation charges

Police said that on July 4, the victim boarded the cab along with her friend and wanted to go to JD block. On the way she dropped her friend at Beliaghata connector.

 After the victim’s friend got down from the vehicle, the driver started driving the vehicle at top speed. When the girl asked the driver why he was driving the vehicle so fast, the accused asked her to keep quiet.

 Few minutes later, the driver drove the vehicle in a comparatively desolate place in Salt Lake and stopped the car. When she tried to get down from the vehicle the driver blocked her way and threatened to rape her.

After the victim raised an alarm and somehow managed to get down from the vehicle.The victim on Tuesday lodged a complaint at Bidhannagar North police station on the basis of which the police had started an investigation.

 After probing into the incident police arrested the driver Santu Pramanik from his house on Wednesday night. During interrogation the accused admitted that he had committed the crime.
