Two-year-old kidnapped girl rescued within 24 hours

A two-year-old girl, who was allegedly abducted by a youth from outside her residence at a slum cluster in central Delhi’s Madipur Area, has been rescued by the police within 24 hours of the incident, police said on Thursday.

The accused, however, could not be arrested yet as he abandoned the girl and fled.

The vital clues in this case were provided by the footage captured by a few of the 2500 CCTV cameras installed in central Delhi areas under an area surveillance scheme by Delhi Police. In a footage, the perpetrator could be seen wearing a blue shirt and black trousers. He is apparently a lanky fellow and was carrying a large mobile phone in one hand.

According to the complaint registered by the girl’s father, the girl was abducted around 12 noon, on Wednesday, when she was playing outside her house, said a police official.

“Several police teams were put into action. File picture of the girl and a snapshot from the footage, for identifying the accused, were then sent through Whatsapp to all police stations and police posts in the city,” said Parmaditya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).
