Two women chain-snatchers held

Two women, allegedly involved in chain snatching incidents in temples of north-west Delhi, have been arrested after they were apprehended by a crowd following snatching incidents, police said on Tuesday.

‘Meera and Sushila were apprehended with the help of Poonam Bansal and others when they snatched gold chains by taking advantage of the crowd which had gathered for Bhagwat Katha at Ram Mandir on Sunday,’ a senior police official said.

Poonam, a resident of Pitampura, had gone to the temple along with her husband. When ‘prasad’ was being distributed after the preaching, Sushila, 45, snatched Bansal’s gold chain and handed it over to her acquaintance, who managed to escape taking the benefit of crowd. Poonam managed to get hold of the snatcher.

At the same time, another snatcher Meera snatched the gold chain of one Kailash Bansal and handed it to another gang member who also managed to escape. The people caught both the snatchers and handed them over to a PCR van, DCP (North-West district) P Karunkaran said.
