Two Trinamool Congress workers shot dead in Mushidabad

Two Trinamool Congress leaders from Murshidabad were shot dead by some unidentified youths on Thursday morning, triggering tension at Domkal in Murshidabad. Police said that the Trinamool Congress leader Abdul Seikh (55) and former panchayat member of Trinamool Congress Yaar Ali (30) were sitting at a tea shop when some miscreants shot at them indiscriminately.

Both the victims received bullet injuries on their bodies. Abdul was declared brought dead after being taken to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital while Ali succumbed to his injuries later on.

The district Trinamool Congress alleged that CPI-M and Congress backed goons were involved in the incident. It was a deliberate attempt to weaken the organization in the district as the two were instrumental in strengthening the organization.

Though both the CPI-M and Congress leaders in the district denied the allegation and termed it as a result of intra party clash between the two groups within Trinamool Congress.

Police said that the accused came on motor cycles to the tea shop when the victims were sitting there. One of the accused took out a gun and shot at the two victims from the close quarter.
Both the victims fell on the ground after being shot at the chest. The miscreants shot a few more rounds but they missed the victims.

The miscreants, however, managed to flee the spot immediately after the shooting. After hearing the sound of the gun shot, some locals rushed to the spot to find the victims lying in a pool of blood. They rushed them to the hospital.

The locals told the police that the miscreants hurled bombs while fleeing the spot to terrorise the residents. According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that an old rivalry might have led to the incident.

Police have started a probe and are conducting raids at different places to nab the culprits.
