Two siblings killed in Dunlop accident

Two out of three school students who were being taken to school on a motorcycle died after a truck hit the bike from behind.

Two others, including a student received serious injuries in the incident.

The incident occurred near Dunlop on Wednesday morning. Police said that victims were not wearing helmets. One Biswanath Yadav, a resident of Ariadaha area under Belghoria police station was taking his two sons and his niece to the school on his motorcycle on Wednesday morning when they met with the fatal accident.

Police came to know from the local people that when they reached Sabedabagan area of Baranagar, a speeding truck knocked them down from behind.

Aniket Yadav and Sanjana Yadav who were students of upper KG of Khalsa Model School were crushed under the wheels of the truck after they fell from the motorcycle.

While another child, Anurag Yadav, a KG student was taken to a private nursing home in Kolkata and later shifted to SSKM Hospital.

Biswanath had also received severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police said that the Biswanath was wearing a helmet while none of the children had helmets at the time of the accident. Some local people, however, told the police that Yadav lost control over the motorcycle when he saw a speeding truck coming towards them and hit a divider.

The two deceased children had received injuries on their head after being struck against the road divider. As per eye-witnesses, the truck did not hit the motorcycle.

Police are, however, started a probe to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. They have held the driver of the vehicle for interrogation.

After being informed, the local people rushed them to hospitals where the two students died. Senior police officers from Barrackpore police Commissionarate reached the spot to look into the incident.

In a separate incident, tension ran high on Burdwan-Suri state highway when many students from a nearby school put up a demonstration demanding deployment of traffic police in the area after a school student died in road accident on Tuesday.

The accident occurred when the student was returning home along the road on his bicycle.

Traffic movement was affected in the area following the demonstration in the area. Police reached the spot to bring the situation under control.

The students lifted the demonstration after getting assurance from the police administration that their demands would be considered.
