Two policemen roughed up by armed youths in Rohini, held

While the police managed to arrest one of them from the spot, the others fled the scene. However, they were arrested later, police said on Monday.

The three accused were identified as Ajay Pal, Varun Gupta and Sujit Gopi. All of them are residents of Rohini Sector 6 and aged between 21 years and 28 years.

According to the police, a call was received at the Police Control Room (PCR) in which a person reported that he had seen a group of young men walking towards a closed sweet shop, with one of them carrying a gun, in A1 pocket of Rohini Sector 6.

A PCR team was rushed  immediately and at around 1 am, they tracked the three youths near the above mentioned spot.

“When the officers approached them, they were allegedly assaulted by the youths. While Ajay was nabbed, Varun and Sujit fled. They were arrested on Sunday after a search operation jointly conducted by teams led by ACP of Prashant Vihar and SHO Begumpur,” said Brahm Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (PCR).

Police recovered a pistol and an empty cartridge from Ajay’s possession. Later, when police teams went to the residences of the other two, they found more cartridges.

He further added that the youths have been booked under Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of  the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
