Two people killed in Malda, police initiate probe

Two people including a relative of a local Trinamool Congress leader were killed at two different places in Malda on Friday.

Police said the incident took place at 9 am. The victim identified as Ismail Haque was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants at Khikirbona village near Jodupur in Kaliachak. He was a relative of a Trinamool leader.

According to information, the miscreants came on motorbikes and opened fired at Haque. The incident took place in a market place. The miscreants fled after committing the crime. 

The local residents took him to Malda Medical College where he was declared brought dead.

Police initiated a probe in this connection, but they are yet to arrest anyone.

Teams comprising senior police officers have been formed to arrest the accused. Police also spoke to the victim’s family members to know whether he had rivalry with anyone.  

In another incident, a middle-aged man was strangulated to death at Dhantala village near Kotwali in Englishbazar. Police recovered his body from state highway. An officer said there was a mark around the victim’s neck. The man is yet to be identified. 

Police suspect that he was killed and later dumped in the area. The body has been sent to a hospital for post-mortem.
