Two Nigerian nationals arrested for duping woman of Rs 2.25 lakh

Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested two Nigerian nationals who were running a fake job racket and cheated a woman of Rs 2.25 lakh on the pretext of offering her a job with Qatar Airways. According to the police, the arrested accused have been identified as Michael James and Umeadi Valentine Chigozie.

Senior officers said that the duo was arrested from East Delhi’s Mandawali area on August 24. Police have recovered 52 SIM cards, two data cards, three laptops and five mobile handsets from their possession. According to the police, one M Gangalakshmi complained to the Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch. A resident of Telangana, the woman alleged that she had paid Rs 2.25 lakh to the accused who had promised her a job with Qatar Airways, under the garb of various charges.

Investigators said that the woman had also filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime police station of Cyberabad in Telangana.

Based on a tip-off that the two are living in East Delhi, a team of Crime Branch raided a house on the Gurudwara Road, on August 24 and arrested them.

“During interrogation, both the accused informed that they had lost their passports. They were produced in the Karkardooma court from where Telangana Police took their transit remand for four days,” said a senior police official.
