Two more arrested for murder of housewife

Police arrested two more persons in connection with the alleged murder of housewife Payal Pal, whose body was found hanging in the toilet in her in-law’s house at Rishra in Hooghly.

Police said that the victim’s mother-in-law Ranjana Pal and her sister-in-law were arrested from a relative’s house at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas.

The six-month-old girl, child of the victim, was also found in the relative’s house in South 24 Parganas. The duo was remanded in the judicial custody for 14 days after being produced before a court on Wednesday morning.

The police had earlier arrested the victim’s husband Krishnendu pal and her father-in-law Dipak.

Police came to know after preliminary investigation that there had been some trouble between the victim and her husband for the past few months. The reason being Payal had come to know that her husband had got engaged into an affair.

Though the victim’s in-law’s claimed that Payal had committed suicide, her parents lodged a complaint with Rishra police station against her in-laws saying that they had murdered her and hanged her to make everyone believe that she had hanged herself.

Police also came to know from the victim’s parents that Krishnendu, who was an employee of a nationalised bank, had been forcing Payal to bring Rs 3 lakh from her parents.

Moreover, the police came to know that the incident had taken place on October 6 while her in-laws’ had informed her parents the next day morning and it had led to all suspicion.

The victim’s family members claimed that Payal had informed them that she had been facing torture of her husband for the past few months and the situation had turned worse the day before the incident when Krishnendu had allegedly beaten up Payal after a verbal duel.

The police would interrogate both the victim’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
