Two men set 20 vehicles on fire

In a bizarre act, two people, including a 16-year-old minor, allegedly set 20 vehicles on fire in Hari Naagar area of West Delhi. The incident occurred on the wee hours of Wednesday in Tihar village area near a Mata Gujri Devi Gurudwara.

According to the police, the incident took place near a Mata Gujri Devi, Gurudwara at around 3 am. The cashier of the Gurudwara, Jaswant Singh noticed the fire and made a PCR call to police. Singh said that he tried to douse the fire with the help of his two associates but to no avail.

However, both the accused were identified thanks to a closed-circuit television camera footage. The camera was installed at the gurudwara in the village.

The police said the arrested person has identified as Devender Singh alias Kaaku, 22, and his 16-year-old minor accomplice. ‘The incident came to light around 3.10 am on Wednesday when the cashier of the Gurudwara, Jaswant Singh noticed the fire and he informed the local police call about the incident after making a PCR call,’ a senior police officer said.

Two fire tenders also rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire within half an hour.  A senior fire official said that no casualty has been reported in the fire but around 19 vehicles were gutted in the same.

Sources said that Singh tried to douse the fire with the help locals. After receiving the call, local police immediately rushed to the spot. ‘After registering the case, police started their investigation and came to know that some miscreants set afire 20 vehicles, including 19 two-wheelers, to seek fun,’ the officer added.

In a separate incident, three bikes were set ablaze by some unidentified persons in Govind Puri of south-east Delhi on Tuesday night. No one was hurt. A case was registered regarding the incident and further investigations are on to nab the accused.
