Two men arrested for raping 17-year-old

A 17-year-old girl was gang-raped by two married men at West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh on Tuesday evening. Both the accused were arrested on Wednesday, police said.

According to the police, Mohd. Hafiz and Mohd <g data-gr-id="27">Hasmudin</g>, both 22 years of age, work in a roadside eatery and are neighbours of the victim.

Hafiz befriended the victim and the duo started meeting occasionally as he was known to the victim’s father. As their friendship grew deeper, Hafiz started pestering her to meet him outside, said police.

One day, Hafiz convinced her to take her out for shopping, said a police officer. They both took an auto and were going to the <g data-gr-id="41">destination,</g> when Hafiz told the driver to stop at a secluded spot. On being asked he said that he has an urgent which will take only <g data-gr-id="40">few minutes</g> and then they will proceed to the market, said police.

As they were standing on the <g data-gr-id="28">road side</g>, Hafiz’s friend arrived and they gagged the victim’s mouth with a piece of cloth and took her near a field where they both took turns to rape her. They warned her not to disclose the matter to anyone, threatening to kill her, if she did. When the victim arrived at her home, her parents asked her about the bruise marks on her face which led to the revelation of the incident, police said.

A case was then registered at the Keshav Puram Police station. Police raided all the places where the accused was expected to be and Hafiz was arrested from a relative’s house on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, police managed to arrest Mohd <g data-gr-id="30">Hasmudin</g> also.

According to the police, they are interrogating the duo, and a case of rape under IPC 376 and POCSO have been registered against them.
