Two linesmen electrocuted to death

Two linesmen, employed with a UPPCL contractor, were electrocuted to death while repairing a transformer in Noida’s Sector 10 on Sunday evening. Police said that the victims met with the accident when a sudden high voltage discharge passed through the wire .

Although power officials have denied negligence on their part, they assured a thorough investigation in the matter.  Despite safety guidelines being issued earlier in December, negligence of power department officials have claimed 611 lives in power related mishaps across the state in 2014.
According to police, the mishap occurred around 5:15 pm when Saddam (25) and Md Hasan (22) were repairing a transformer and power supply resumed from the nearby power sub-station. The impact of the electrocution was so severe that few portions of their body including head and hands were melted partially. Onlookers raised an alarm and police were informed. When supply of power was stopped, both victims were brought down from the transformer and rushed to the district hospital, where they were declared brought dead. The bodies were later sent for an autopsy.

As negligence of power officials was to blame, the family members of both deceased staged a protest near the spot but relented when police assured penal action against the persons involved.
“ Though failure to adopt safety measures caused the mishap, we are investigating the matter.
