Two killed, one injured in bike accident

Two persons were killed and one injured in a road accident in which a motorbike hit a dumper on National Highway 6 at Uluberia in Howrah on Thursday morning.

Police said that Subhodip Mondal and Nonte Adak were declared brought dead when taken to Uluberia Hospital while Abhijit Adak was admitted with severe injuries. A police officer said that the victim were residents of Bagnan in Howrah. The three friends were heading towards Uluberia from Bagnan on one motorbike when the accident took place. They were going to meet some of their friends at Uluberia on the eve of the Bengali New Year. The motorbike was at its top speed and Mondal, who was riding the bike with two others on the pillion, failed to control the two-wheeler when he suddenly saw the dumper moving at a slow pace and hit behind it. None of the trio was wearing helmet and they had flouted traffic norms as well. All three of them received severe injuries on their heads. Local people took all three to Uluberia Hospital where two were declared brought dead and one was admitted. Police had got the phone numbers of their home from the mobile phones and contacted their family members. A pall of gloom descended in the area when the local people came to know about their death. The incident led to traffic congestion on the national highway. Later senior police officers intervened and cleared the traffic congestion.

A senior police officer from Howrah district said various steps were taken at different times to create awareness among people to follow traffic norms while riding motorbike or driving a car. Such accidents take place just due to reckless driving. Banners were put up at different spots to create awareness on the risks of reckless driving.
