Two killed in road accidents in city

Two persons were killed and a sub-inspector of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was injured in three separate accidents in the city. One of the deceased, Souradip Halder, was killed when he was riding his motorcycle without wearing a helmet. Police said that 25-year-old Halder was a resident of Metiabruz area and the accident took place near Nature Park on Taratala Road.

A speeding truck hit him when he was riding his bike. He fell on the road and received severe head injuries after he hit a roadside railing. Local people took the youth to hospital where he was declared brought dead. A police officer said that Halder would have survived if had a helmet on his head.
In another road accident at Gouribari in Maniktala, a pedestrian Tapan Saha (40) was killed after he was hit by a private bus on route DN-18. 

The driver of the speeding bus could not control its speed and hit Saha while he was crossing the road. Local people and on-duty policemen took him to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead. 

The driver and helper of the bus were caught by local people and handed the two over to the police. The bus was also seized. In the third accident at Chingrighata, a CBI sub-inspector had a narrow 
escape. SI Pranjit Ghosh was on his motorbike heading towards his office at Salt Lake, when a truck brushed passed him. He fell on the side of the road along with his bike. He was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries.

“He was wearing a helmet which is why he did not receive serious injuries on his head,” said a police officer.
