Two incidents of acid attacks in state

The accused Rafikul Seikh had hurled acid on the girl after she refused to marry him. The accused who is a resident of Jitpur village under Domkal police station got acquainted with the victim through the mobile phone a few months ago, following which they were involved in a relationship.

As she refused his proposal of marriage, the accused on Thursday went to her house and attacked her with acid. The local residents rushed the victim to Amtala primary health centre where she is currently been undergoing treatment. According to the doctors, she suffered acid injuries on her face and some other parts of her body.

The local people had managed to catch the accused when he was trying to flee the spot after the incident. A mob had beaten up the accused before handing him over to the police later on. Police have arrested him on the basis of specific charges.

A similar incident took place at Joynagar in South 24 Parganas where acid hurled on a woman by her neighbour following a quarrel. The victim’s daughter told the police that the accused Pravash Mistri who is a local resident often used to engage in quarrels with the victim’s family on petty matters.
On Wednesday night, Pravash hurled acid on the woman. As she was suffering burning sensation she jumped into a pond.

The local residents later rescued her and admitted her to a local hospital. She was later shifted to Bangur Hospital on late Wednesday night. The district police later arrested the accused on charges of attacking and injuring the woman with acid.

The victim’s daughter told the police that the accused accompanied by his wife hurled acid on her at 
around 10 pm. As the victim could not bear the pain, she jumped in a pond to get some relief.

The accused’s mother however denied the allegation and said that her son could not perform such an act and the police have arrested the accused on the basis of some baseless allegations.
