Two hurt in car-bike crash, alert ACP nabs errant motorist

Two persons  were injured after a speeding Maruti Swift car hit them in South-East Delhi’s Chirag Dilli  early on Thursday, police said. The man behind the wheels was in an inebriated state when the accident took place, they added.

Police said apart from the errant driver, three others were also seated in the car when the accident took place. Ambedkar Nagar ACP chased the car and nabbed the errant driver, identified as Satish, near the Kailash Colony Metro station.

The police said Satish was earlier booked for raping minors and human trafficking. He was arrested in 2006, too, after a case was registered at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station. In 2015, a case of rash driving was registered against him in South Delhi’s Mehrauli police station.

According to the police, the incident took place around 4.25 am when Satish (34) was driving the car at a high speed and rammed into the victims’ motorcycle. The police said Sawan (28), who was riding the motobike, and Sanjeev Lama (29), who was riding pillion, were injured in the accident. Both hailed from Darjeeling, they added.

The ACP, who along with another policeman was patrolling in the area, witnessed the accident. “The errant car driver did not stop after the accident and sped past, despite being signalled by ACP Amit Kaushik to stop. ACP Kaushik asked his operator, who was with him, to take the victim’s to a hospital and make a PCR call. Kauhsik then instructed his driver to follow the car,” a senior officer said.

The accused persons’ car slowed down due to some glitch near the Kailash Colony Metro station when they were caught, police added. All four of them were apprehended. A case under relevant Sections of the IPC was registered against them at the Ambedkar Nagar police station, police said.

The police found that Satish, who was driving the car, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and had a criminal record.

The police added that he worked as a travel agent and two cases were already registered against him.

The other accused were identified as Vinod, Manish and Raj Kumar, police said.
