Two highway robbers held

Delhi Police managed to arrest two robbers who were involved in more than half a dozen highway robberies during the dark hours. According to the police, both the accused are in their early twenties and have committed eight robberies.

The accused have been identified as Ajeet (25) and Rahul (22). The two are residents of Sultanpuri. According to police, they used to move in vehicles at night on highways and offer transportation to lonely passengers waiting at bus stops to their desired destinations. Once the person would board the vehicle, they would overpower and rob off his/her cash and valuable items.

“After robbing off the passengers, they used to throw them out of the vehicle. This gang of five was active for the last 3-4 months,” a senior police officer said.

On Tuesday, information was received that the suspects would come near Sultanpuri main terminal to sell stolen mobile phones. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the two were nabbed.

On sustained interrogation, it was revealed that Ajeet and Rahul, along with their associates <g data-gr-id="27">Shidharth</g>, Abhishek and Ravi, all residents of Meerut, used EECO vans to carry out the robberies. Ajeet and Rahul used to drive the vehicle and others sitting behind used to rob the passengers.

“They usually used to choose the Ring Road for robbing and throw the victims out of the vehicle within two kilometers from the place of lifting. Further interrogation revealed their involvement in eight other robbery cases committed in the areas of Jahangir Puri, Mahendra Park, Maurya Enclave, Punjabi Bagh, Tilak Nagar and Moti Nagar police stations. Both the accused were arrested under appropriate sections of the law,” the officer added.
