Two held from New Town on dacoity charges

Bidhannagar police have arrested two dreaded criminals from New Town on Wednesday night. The accused gathered at Akangsha More area of New Town for carrying out dacoity in some parts.

Acting on a tip off, the police officers reached the spot and arrested the two accused. Police came to know in the interrogation that the accused has been involved in various dacoity incidents that had taken place in various places of North 24-Parganas and outside for past few years. Police said that the miscreants have confessed their guilt and told the police that they had a plan to snatch valuables from the people at night.

It may be mentioned that Bidhannagar police have arrested more than 50 such miscreants from Rajarhat and New Town area in last one year. The police have been vigilant through the commissionerate area to check the incidents of crime. Mamata Banerjee government has given a clear instruction to the police to crack down the criminal dens and take stern action against the accused so that the crime incidents could be curbed.

The accused were remanded in police custody after being produced before a court. After interrogating the accused, the police have received important information on how a racket has been operating in the area. Police are trying to know about the other gang members who are involved in various crime incidents.
